Will I be an Award Winning Accountant?

I’ve always seen people winning business awards, but I never thought I would be one of them.  At the start of November, it was confirmed that I am a finalist in the Women’s Business Awards 2021 for ‘Overcomer of the Year’ and ‘Women in Finance’

My story is by no means unique, but when I look at where I was this time last year, and where I am now, I can’t believe how far I have come.

Following a steady decline in my mental health during 2020, it became clear in the November that my anxiety and stress had become so incapacitating that I couldn’t continue in a role that I had loved.  Additionally, the mental strain had caused my chronic pain condition to increase in severity, leaving me unable to really move much.

As a mum, I had to look at how this was affecting my family life, and my daughter.  It became clear that in order to look after myself, I couldn’t return to a similar role that I had been in with large accountancy firms.

I started talking to more business owners, and people who had recently taken the decision to take control of their lives and become self employed or start a limited company.  These people had great business ideas, were skilled in their areas, but were struggling with the financial side of things.  I realised that I could make a real difference to their lives by offering services tailored to their businesses, and providing a source of advice, without costing the earth.

Since then, I am proud to have been able to do this for my growing number of clients.  I have received lovely reviews from many, who have appreciated the personal service I offer, and that each and every one is valued.  I recently became a fully Licenced Accountant with the Association of Accounting Technicians which allowed me to add even more services.  Knowing that I am letting people focus on what they love, and genuinely helping people have their best lives has had a huge impact on my own mental health, which is now recovering.

The recognition of how far I have come in just 12 months has meant the world to me, and I am grateful to all those who have voted for me.
